Airport Consolidated Rental Car Facility ($400M)

With 45 million annual passengers expected to travel through Sea-Tac Airport by 2021, the Port of Seattle commissioned a consolidated Rental Car Facility (RCF) to meet the current and future demands of the traveling public. All Airport-related rental car operations will be located in the City of SeaTac on a 23-acre site adjacent to the Airport, bounded by International Boulevard, State Route (SR) 518 and South 160th Street.

The RCF is the first Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) sustainable demonstration project and sustainable asset management project for Sea-Tac Airport.

Goal

Expand the size and capacity rental car facilities and provide a more efficient and competitive operating environment, able to process 12,000 to 14,000 rental cars daily. The final facility will have five floors and 2.1 million total square feet of space.

Reduce traffic congestion with a consolidated busing operation that transports customers between the Main Terminal and the RCF. Improve air quality on the Airport’s roadways, with all buses running on Compressed Natural Gas (CNG).

Project

Provide primary project management/LEED certification services for the Consolidated Rental Car Facility and four supporting infrastructure components:

  • Bus Maintenance Facility
  • Compressed Natural Gas (CNG) as Fueling Station
  • Main Terminal Improvements (MTI)
  • Off-Site Roadway Improvements (ORI)

Off-site road improvements address the local roadway network, such as creating direct access to eastbound SR-518 for customers exiting the RCF and enhancements to the exit off of westbound SR-518 leading to the new facility.

Status
The Rental Car Facility is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2012.
